A Year 13 student at Teesside High School Sixth Form has received a prestigious offer to read Music at the University of Cambridge.
Samantha Pinches, 18, from North Yorkshire, will study at the university’s Fitzwilliam College from September 2018.
Samantha is an outstanding musician; she has achieved Grade 8 Piano, Grade 8 Flute and Grade 7 Classical Voice, and regularly contributes to the School’s musical concerts, drama productions and co-curricular programme, including School orchestra and Upper School Choir. Samantha is a choral soloist at Durham Cathedral and has performed in venues such as Birmingham’s Symphony Hall with the North East Regional Choir.
Samantha said: “I am thrilled to have been accepted to study Music at Cambridge.
“It has always been my dream to study music at the highest level.
“I have been at Teesside High School since Year 6 and very much feel part of the family here. My teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure I not only fulfil my potential, but take advantage of so many additional opportunities which have broadened my horizons and enhanced my personal statement and UCAS application no end.
“I was fortunate to receive one-to-one application advice, entrance exam tuition and extensive interview preparation; all of which helped stand me in good stead along the admissions process.”
Samantha, who studies German, Mathematics and Music at A-level, added: “After such an intense selection process, which involved a formal application, two assessed essays, an interview and an audition, I am truly overjoyed.”
Fitzwilliam College was ranked top of all Cambridge University colleges for Music results in 2012. Their Music course is described as ‘active, varied and stimulating; aspiring the highest standards in both practical and academic music.’
Jane Bird, Head of Sixth Form at Teesside High School, said: “Sam has shown herself to be an asset to THS Sixth Form and we are delighted her hard work, commitment and natural talent have been recognised.
“A key feature of what we offer at Teesside High School Sixth Form stems from our size and friendly, personable nature; we know our students exceptionally well and use this to drive their progress and provide individual advice as to each of their aspirations and ambitions.
“Our track record of Oxbridge success continues and we could not be more pleased.”
