North East Connected

Teesside one of the top UK universities for teaching qualifications

The data also puts Teesside as the top University in the North East for qualified teaching staff.

The data, collected between 2014 and 2015, was released by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and analysed by the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

Of the 715 academic staff at Teesside University, 84% hold known teaching qualifications.

An academic staff member is counted as holding a teaching qualification if they hold a credit-bearing higher education teaching qualification, or another relevant teaching qualification, or have been recognised in other ways for their teaching expertise.

Professor Mark Simpson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) at Teesside University, said: “We provide a first class student and learning experience through our highly qualified academic staff.

“Students who come to Teesside University will be taught by academics with real world experience, who are actively involved in research and place their students at the heart of everything they do.

“We are delighted to have such a high ranking in the UK – the data reflects our dedication to learning and teaching.”

The high score for academic staff with teaching qualifications, builds on a host of recent accolades and student satisfaction data for Teesside University.

International students ranked the University as first in the world for personal tutors and in the top three globally for overall satisfaction in the learning experience. In this year’s National Student Survey, Teesside University rose above the national average with an overall satisfaction score of 87% and Teesside also featured in the top 10% of universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2016-17.

Teesside University has also invested over £270m in its campus in recent years as part of its ongoing commitment to provide the best possible student and learning experience.
