Tenants set to unlock door to new homes

Coming soon a great opportunity to rent a newly-built home or apartment with Darlington Borough Council.

Housing Services is keen to hear from anyone interested in the latest addition to the Council’s housing stock, including 18 two-bedroom apartments in Skerne Park which will be ready to move into later this month.

No admin fee, no bond or no deposit to pay, with access to a 24 hour repairs and maintenance service, the Council also provides a personal service from a dedicated Housing Officer, who will offer advice and support to manage your tenancy.

As well as the apartments in Hammond Drive, other new developments will become available in Fenby Avenue, Sherborne Close, Anfield and Aintree Court and later this year at Earl Calrson Grove, in Lingfield.

The developments are the latest phase of an ambitious house building scheme, which has seen the Council re-invest £20.1m of housing revenue funds and secure £3.2m from the Homes and Communities Agency to build 166 much-needed, new council homes.

The building programme includes a mix of two and three bedroom family homes as well as two-bedroom apartments at various sites across the borough.

Properties in Hammond Drive include six ground floor apartments with enhanced accessibility; with six more on each of the first and second floors.

Each apartment boasts a modern kitchen, with fitted oak wall and base units and black, granite-style worktops; white bathroom suite with an electric over-the-bath shower; spacious living areas with storage and Juliette balcony doors, along with two good-sized double bedrooms.

The site also includes communal parking bays at the front and an enclosed communal garden at the rear. These fantastic homes have been designed to accommodate modern living and are perfect for families and professional couples.

Councillor Veronica Copeland, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

“The new apartments are a great addition to the properties we can offer and provide a modern, comfortable home for our tenants.

“Residents with a local connection will be given preference and we’re now keen to invite applications for the new properties. So I would urge anyone interested to get in touch soon.

“These flats represent part of a major investment of our housing revenue from rents to build new, good quality council homes for tenants. We have 1,670 applicants for council housing in Darlington and these flats are the latest stage of our plan to meet these needs.”
