Annette Wardell, who was brought up in Redcar, sang to 280 million people live at the FA Cup Final at Wembley in 2002 and she will be performing with Alfie Boe at his Last Night Of The Proms spectacular at Delapre Park, Northampton, at the end of July and will make her debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in September.
The soprano, who is constantly in the public eye, has had a completely new smile designed by The Smile Spa, which has enhanced her confidence and made her much more relaxed when singing to vast audiences.
Annette had various treatments completed at the Yarm Road practice, which included replacing two crowns at the front of her smile, having dental veneers fitted to all of her upper front teeth and teeth whitening carried out on her lower teeth.
Prior to having her work completed, Annette admitted she was very self-conscious about her teeth and found herself covering her mouth with her hand when she smiled. Since having the dental cosmetic work, which was finished in 2012, her career has gone from strength to strength.
Due to Annette’s profession, she wanted to ensure that her singing voice was unaffected by the changes. Dr Simon Andrews, Principal Dentist at The Smile Spa who completed the smile makeover, had to be extremely careful as changing the shape of her teeth too much could have affected the sound of Annette’s singing voice.
During the process, Annette frequently visited her singing coach in London to assess whether her singing voice had altered in any way.
She said: “I am naturally a very happy person, but the way my smile looked definitely held me back from showing my teeth, which seriously affected my confidence and made things a lot harder for me in an image-conscious business.
“I’m very much in the public eye and there’s always a focus on the way I look, so I often felt uncomfortable and decided that the best thing for my self-esteem and career was to pretty much have a new smile designed.
“Throughout the whole process, the staff at The Smile Spa were fantastic, particularly Simon who completed the work, and they were very flexible working around my diary and tailoring the treatments to ensure that my singing voice remained the same.
“Since having the work completed, my career has taken off and I’m looking forward to singing with Alfie Boe, which will be a real personal achievement – it’s given me something extra to smile about!”
Dr. Simon Andrews, Principal Dentist at The Smile Spa, said: “The positive effects that transforming someone’s smile can have on their life always amazes me. We have seen it boost a person’s self-esteem and change a timid patient on their first appointment into a happy, smiling confident personality. We are all extremely proud of Annette; she is at the top of her game and everyone at The Smile Spa wishes her the best of the luck for her performance with Alfie Boe.”
Annette is now a regular patient at The Smile Spa.
