Surrey Scorchers ended their wait for a first home win this season after beating Cheshire Phoenix 67-61 on Saturday.

Will Neighbour top scored with 19 points in the win and was delighted for his side to get off the mark on their home floor.
“It was fantastic to get the win [on Saturday], not only for us as a team but for our fans also,” he enthused.

“It has been a very hard start to the season with double-headers and players coming in late but we are starting to come together as a team now so things are looking up.

“I think we can get a good winning streak going but we have to take it one game at a time.”

Surrey had suffered their seventh defeat the previous night as Worcester Wolves recorded a 90-82 success behind 26 points and nine assists from Marek Klassen.

However, the Wolves were then beaten 102-79 by Cheshire to drop to a 2-4 record in the league with Phoenix led by Josh Fox’s 20 points and nine rebounds in a game that saw the one millionth point scored in the BBL Championship.

Leicester Riders continued their winning run with wins over Bristol Flyers and Leeds Force. Rob Paternostro’s side defeated Bristol 70-80 on Friday night after a strong third quarter showing before pulling clear for a 92-60 triumph over Force on Sunday as Tyler Bernardini netted 25 points.

Also, London Lions remain unbeaten after Rashad Hassan’s 22 points and 10 rebounds helped his side record a 60-83 victory away at Manchester Giants.

It was a double-winning weekend for Esh Group Eagles Newcastle over Plymouth Raiders with Sunday’s game filled with history.
Orlan Jackman poured in 32 points in Friday’s 103-93 home win before the Eagles won 84-92 with Rahmon Fletcher scored 32 points as Fab Flournoy celebrated his 500th win as a coach in his 600th BBL Championship appearance.

Glasgow Rocks also enjoyed a successful double-header as they followed up a 78-61 win over DBL Sharks Sheffield with an 84-61 win against Bristol Flyers with Neil Watson scoring 20 points to help his side to a 5-1 record.
