Tiger Pays Tribute to Julie’s, With Throwback Thursdays

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 12.51.37ONE of the North East’s most popular cocktail bars is paying a special tribute to the past.

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, clubbers, television stars and footballing legends flocked to Julie’s nightclub at the Quayside, Newcastle – and Thursday nights were undoubtedly the highlight of the week.

Now, the venue, Tiger Hornsby, is echoing its heritage with Throwback Thursdays.

Not only has Tiger Hornsby founder, Rachael Frame, tracked down the DJs who made Julie’s and nearby Legends, on Grey Street, so popular, but her mixologists have created updated versions of cocktail classics from the 80s and 90s.

“Throwback Thursdays are, quite simply, my way of paying tribute to what was, for a very long time, the best night of the week on Tyneside,” said Rachael.

“DJ Mark Hutchinson and his friends will be paying the very best of the music from both decades –proper, old school, soul and R and B.

“We’ve also created four cocktails based on the key tastes of the era, such as Cherry B, Blastaway and Blue Lagoon, all priced at £5 each.

“And, in a nod to one of the era’s greatest stars; Prince, there’s a  Purple Rain cocktail, of vodka, Chambord, blue curacao, lime and cranberry juice.”

Tiger Hornsby is named after one of Tyneside’s most well-known ‘It’ girls – and Julie’s regular – of the 80s and its Throwback Thursdays take place from 8pm until 2am, with free entry.
