Roger Cutler, who captained the Sunderland Technical College 1st Team to the North Eastern Amateur League 1st Division title, is organising a reunion and calling for help in tracking down his former teammates.

He said: “It will be 50 years and I thought it would be great if as many of that winning team as possible could meet up around March or April next year to celebrate.

“It all seems like yesterday, the squad was made up of nine engineering students and three pharmacy students – plus Gavin Hamilton, an engineering student who was our equivalent of Sam Allardyce.

“We had several Norwegian engineering students in the team, as the names might suggest, and they were excellent players and had great personalities too. It would be great to meet again; perhaps we could take on the current University of Sunderland 1st team, perhaps not!”

Roger spent three years studying pharmacy, graduating despite missing a few practical sessions to play in football matches, and was also the Sports Editor of the College Newspaper.

The title-winning team was as follows: Yohan Lyby, Norman Robson, Pete Woodland, Ken Rutter, Gunnar Nilsen, Keith Grabham, Dave Tall, Albert Hart, Sammy Samualson, Jon Bache, Stein Rognlien, and Gavin Hamilton.

The University of Sunderland Alumni Office is trying to contact the members of the squad but unfortunately has lost contact with almost all of them. If you have any information please contact the team on (0191) 500 3746, or email alumni@sunderland.ac.uk
