Top DJs bring Boxing Day party to Newcastle

A QUIRKY Newcastle bar and restaurant is keeping the party going this Christmas, with a big Boxing Day party full of top DJs.

Colonel Porter’s Tavern, Botanical Garden and Rhum Bar at Dean Street – named after the creator of Newcastle Brown Ale, Colonel J Porter – will be bringing some of the North East’s top DJs to the heart of Newcastle for a special all-day session.

And leading the line-up at the event, which goes on from 4pm until 2am, is internationally renowned artist, Graeme Park, who has more than 30 years’ experience on the decks and 20 years on the radio, with shows on stations including Galaxy and Kiss.

Graeme started his career in Nottingham in the 1980s, before moving on to an eight-year residency at the high profile Hacienda club in Manchester.

He was one of the first British DJs to play countries including Australia, South America, Asia and America and has remixed tracks by artists such as The Brand New Heavies and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Graeme will be joined by other leading DJs including Steve Butler, Liam Carty, Jonathan Peter Wharrier, Tony Hutchinson, Michael Johnson, Adam Fraser and DJ Craig “Disco” Dewson.

Chrissie Gladstone, sales manager at Colonel Porter’s, is delighted to be bringing the event to Newcastle on 26 December.

“We’ve pulled out all the stops to create a memorable Boxing Day party for everyone that visits,” she said.

“And to have someone the calibre of Graeme Park headlining is unbelievable.

“We hope that the people of the North East will join us in keeping the festivities going, by coming to this special one-off event.”

Colonel Porter’s, based at the former Canteen and Cocktails bar at Milburn House, was created by John Adamson, of Ramside Estates, which also owns Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa and Hardwick Hall Hotel near Durham.

Settings in the bar range from a Victorian-style drawing room, to a secret rum bar hidden behind a bookcase which leads to Archie’s lab – a space for private functions and rum-tasting masterclasses.

Along with a range of cask ales, the bar also offers more than 100 rums and a full programme of unusual events including “tipsy teas”, variety shows and talks by politicians, explorers and entrepreneurs.

Tickets for the big Boxing Day party are £10. For further information, or to buy tickets, go towww.colonelporters.co.uk/whats-on or call Colonel Porter’s on 0191 261 7600 from 10am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
