A broad mix of music, comedy and children’s theatre make up a programme that has something for everyone.
Once again comedy plays an important role in the season with some of the biggest names in the business making appearances at the Town Hall.
The Autumn season will see shows by Michael Palin (September 25), Paddy McGuinness (September 29), Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown (October 1), Chris Ramsey (October 24), Alan Davies (October 30), Al Murray (November 10), Lee Nelson (November 12), Milton Jones (November 20), Dave Gorman (November 21) and Sarah Millican (December 9 – 11) as well as the monthly laugh-fest that is the Big Mouth Comedy Club (September 5, October 3, November 14, December 5 and 12).
As ever a world class programme of classical music has been programmed with three orchestral performances over the coming months and gets under way with Royal Northern Sinfonia, led by Lars Vogt, performing a programme of Mozart and Grieg (September 23). This is followed by visits from Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra (October 13) and Prague Symphony Orchestra (November 18) as well as a piano recital from Timothy Ravenscroft (September 26).
There’s a fine selection of other musical treats on offer too.
In Folk Music, BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year Nancy Kerr visits on November 17 and Richard Grainger celebrates 30 years as a recording artist with a special anniversary concert on November 6.
The brilliant saxophonist Snake Davis returns on Thursday, September 24 with a special show celebrating some of the very best sax solos while reggae-influenced punk legends Ruts DC of ‘Babylon’s Burning’ fame play on Thursday, October 15.
Fans of West End Musicals will love Beyond the Barricade (December 4) which has a cast of past principal performers from Les Misérables that has delighted audiences throughout the UK and abroad for more than a decade with its exciting concert portrayal of the greatest songs in musical theatre.
There is a host of the finest musical tribute acts around with Simon and Garfunkel: Through The Years performed by Bookends (September 18), ELO Again (October 10), Off The Wall – The Music of Pink Floyd (October 17) and A Vision of Elvis (October 23).
Continuing on from its previous seasons The Town Hall has programmed more superb children’s shows for young ones.
Scottish Dance Theatre presents Innocence (September 30) – a beautiful and engaging dance experience for young ones, their families and friends.
Theatre Hullabaloo’s Bear and Butterfly (October 20) is a charming tale about love, loss and friendship that combines puppetry, live music and wonderful storytelling. Town Hall favourites Blunderbus Theatre Company return with two new magic productions – The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark (November 1) will be a hoot and there will be a perfect treat for Christmas with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (December 23 and 24).
Not just a place for all the best comedy and music around, Middlesbrough Town Hall will also be welcoming the popular star of TV’s Street Psychic, Psychic Private Eyes and Psychic Academy, Tony Stockwell (October 9) for an evening of mediumship.
There’s great festive entertainment too with party nights with Big Sigh and the Yawns (December 17), Grooveline (December 18) and Teesside Disco legend Brutus Gold makes a triumphant return with his Love Train (December 19) with an A to Z of disco classics. As well as the Party Nights there will be Christmas Concerts featuring the MTH Community Choir (December 7) Tees Valley Music Service (December 13) and the Cleveland Philharmonic Choir (December 20).
