Wellness For Cancer founder heads to leading North East spa

Julie Bach, executive director and founder of American-based Wellness for Cancer, will host a complimentary talk at the spa in County Durham on Saturday September 10, 2016.

Wellness for Cancer is an international organisation which established accredited training for the spa industry on how to work with anyone affected by the illness, covering everything from suitable treatments to how reception staff should respond.

Last year, the spa at Ramside Hall Hotel became the first in the UK to become part of the international organisation and offer a special programme of treatments for anyone healing from cancer.

And its programme has won acclaim from MacMillan Nurses and has become popular with cancer patients and their families from across the region.

Julie Bach devised the programme drawing on her own experience of 15 years spent caring for her parents with cancer and spending time in and out of cancer centres.

During her visit she will discuss medical evidence of the benefits of massage, yoga, breath work, meditation and mindfulness and tackle the myths surrounding cancer and massage.

She will also talk about the work Wellness for Cancer is doing globally to train the spa industry and about the importance of using mindfulness – a way of living in the present moment and not visiting the angry or anxiety filled-time zones of the past and the future.

The Spa at Ramside launched its first mindfulness programme in May and Julie’s visit comes as part of a mindfulness weekend which will also include two Yoga Nidra sessions in Ramside’s Sleep Sanctuary and a Yoga and Mindfulness workshop.

Jill Russell, spa director, is looking forward to welcoming visitors new and old to learn more about how the spa can help people who are dealing with the condition.

“Since we announced our affiliation with Wellness for Cancer we have all been on quite a journey and have learned so much about how this service can really help people,” she said.

“For people affected by this crippling disease, a spa is the perfect environment but previous misconceptions about cancer and massage have seen people turned away from spas in the past.

“Here at the Spa at Ramside we want to ensure everyone knows what treatments are available and Julie is the perfect person to put all of these fears to bed.”

The Wellness for Cancer talk with Julie Bach will be held on Saturday 10 September from 2pm to 4pm.

The event is complimentary, however all attendees will be encouraged to make a donation to the Spa at Ramside’s nominated charity, MacMillan Cancer Support.
