Wild Summer Fun at the Dorman Museum

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 15.09.29BRITISH wildlife is the theme of the summer exhibition at Middlesbrough’s Dorman Museum.

Have you ever been up close to a gannet in full dive as it plummets towards the sea to catch fish, or managed to catch a glimpse of the elusive red squirrel as it scampers into the trees above you?

Newly-opened exhibition ‘Wild’ lets visitors get up close with taxidermy specimens of British wildlife, from the common sparrow to the majestic Atlantic salmon.

There is an array of animals on display, some familiar and some less so. Also included are a red fox, a barn owl in mid swoop and a slice through a pond to reveal great crested newts.

Visitors can also learn about the biology and ecology of the animals featured.

The exhibition is accompanied by beautiful landscape photography images to help children understand different habitats, and interactive games including a puppet theatre.

Dorman Museum will also be running a wildlife themed summer activity programme inspired by their exhibition.

Twice-weekly workshops will give little hands the chance to get busy decorating owl egg cosies, a bird mobile or their choice of wildlife masks.

Entry to the Dorman Museum is free. For further details about summer activities, contact the Dorman Museum on 01642 813781.
