Work starts on new east Cramlington homes as banks property and Miller homes sign agreement

Work is under way on a new residential scheme in East Cramlington after North East employer Banks Property and leading housebuilder Miller Homes North East reached an agreement on the development of the eight-hectare site.
In September last year, Banks Property was granted unanimous approval from Northumberland County Council’s planning committee for the Chapel View scheme, which is located on an eight hectare site to the east of the town’s new specialist Emergency Care Hospital.
The County Durham-headquartered firm identified Miller Homes as the best partner with which to work on taking the scheme forward, and they have since been working towards completing a detailed design for the project, for which full planning permission has now been received.
The development has been renamed as Barley Meadows by Miller Homes and will bring 192 much-needed new homes to the area, including two to five-bedroom homes ideal for first time buyers, families, those looking to upgrade their property as well as downsizers.
The showhomes will be open for potential buyers to view in late spring 2017, with the first families expected to move into their new homes in early summer.
Improvements to the wider local community, including affordable housing, a new play area and a new cycle link along the frontage of the site to make it safer for cyclists, are being made as part of the overall development package.
Over £200,000 is also being contributed through the project to fund improvements to the Moor Farm Roundabout.
Patrick Arkle, operations director at Miller Homes North East, says: “As part of our ambitious plans to grow our presence in the region and increase our portfolio of active developments, we are really pleased to have secured this sought-after site and deliver much-needed, high quality new homes to the area, working closely with Banks Property.
“Location is key when selecting land for our developments and this site offers access to convenient transport links and commuting roads, good schools, local amenities and the town centre, which we hope will prove to be desirable to those looking to make the move to a new home in this popular area.
“We have worked hard to create a strong development design encompassing 192 new homes and a range of house types, and after reaching an agreement with Banks Property, work is progressing well to make this a reality.”
Michael Shuttleworth, managing director at Banks Property, adds: “There is a clear and increasingly pressing need across the North East to boost the available supply of quality homes, a need which the Barley Meadows scheme will help to address in this popular part of Northumberland.
“This is a high quality site that’s close to services and other population centres, and we are certain there will be strong demand for the type of properties that are now being built on it.

“Working in partnership with Miller Homes on this scheme has been a very positive experience – they know the area very well, have created a strong development design and we’re confident that they are ideally placed to bring the high quality scheme that we envisaged in our plans to life.”
