Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 09.31.45ONE OF the region’s newest visitor attractions will be opening its gates to the public next week.

The official opening of the Walled Gardens, set in the grounds of the prestigious Wynyard Hall Hotel, Tees Valley, will take place on Tuesday (August 4).

The day, which marks the start of a week long programme of events, will include a formal ribbon cutting by Sir John Hall, owner of Wynyard Hall Hotel and the UK’s leading rose expert, Michael Marriot from David Austin Roses, who have supplied the garden’s roses.

Around 350 guests who have bought tickets for a special opening day event will be among the first to see the garden, designed by multi-Royal Horticultural Society award-winning designer Alistair Baldwin, which also includes a state-of-the-art visitor’s centre, shop and café.

They will also enjoy afternoon tea and live entertainment from The North Tyneside Steel Band and Opus Four Strings Quartet in the Grand Marquee.

The £1.6m Walled Garden, which contains over 3000 roses, is the second stage in a rolling programme of work on the gardens and part of a £5.3m investment in the venue.

The first stage was the development of the Grand Marquee, which is adjacent to the Walled Gardens.

Tickets for the official opening event are now sold out. Normal admission prices – of £5 for adults, £2 for children aged between 5 and 12, £14 for a family pass for two adults and three children and £30 for an annual pass for up to eight visits a year – apply on subsequent days.
