YMCA Newcastle “SPACE2… ” Youth project and a YMCA Newcastle volunteer, Mark Sillett, have both been named runner up at a prestigious national youth charity awards ceremony after reaching this year’s glittering finals held at the exclusive central London venue 8 Northumberland Avenue on 4 November and hosted by TV presenter June Sarpong MBE.
YMCA Newcastle SPACE2… project was judged a worthy finalist because of the number of young people it supports, the ethnic diversity it reaches and the work it does to get young people into work.
Mark Sillett was judged a worthy finalist because of his committment to helping the charity to deliver its much needed services to young people. He freely gives up an enormous amount of his time to help others and travels into the city from Consett.
Both had previously battled through a public vote to get to finals night but were pipped at the post by the worthy winners.
Youth Matters is the YMCA federation’s national awards programme that has been an integral part of the charity’s calendar since 2009. Other categories in the awards this year are Young Achiever of the Year, Young Leader of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year and Young Worker of the Year.

Youth Matters is YMCA’s national awards ceremony which celebrates the outstanding skills and achievements of young people from across the country. It also recognises the vital work that YMCAs deliver every day to help transform the lives of young people and give them a brighter future.
Locally, the charity provides a wide range of services that support young people to overcome an issue they are facing and to make a positive transition into adulthood.
