Newcastle Falcons centre Adam Powell will leave the club at the end of the current season to take up a coaching role with Saracens’ academy.

The 30-year-old joined the Falcons in 2013 during their RFU Championship title run-in, going on to make 78 appearances, all but 10 of which were starts.

An anterior cruciate knee ligament injury in the first pre-season game of this season has ruled Powell out of any further playing involvement for the Falcons, but the long-time Saracens centre has remained a positive presence behind the scenes during his time on the sidelines.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “Adam has been a very consistent and effective performer for us during his time at the club, and we wish him all the best for his return to Saracens in this new coaching role.

“Even during a very difficult year on the injury front he has been a fantastic influence behind the scenes, helping out with our analysis and match preparation.

“I have no doubt he will be a success in his new position, and on behalf of everyone at Newcastle Falcons we thank Adam for the service he has given this club.”
