Steven Hillary has stepped up onto the bridge to take charge of Newcastle Building Society’s Durham City branch.
The Society has given Steven the responsibility for leading his own five-strong team and developing its operations across the Elvet Bridge branch’s geographical territory.
It’s the second time that Steven, who is from Gateshead, has worked for the Newcastle, having previously had a period as manager of its Hexham branch.
He has worked in financial services for more than a quarter of a century, and originally joined NBS after spending over 20 years in a variety of branch and business management positions with Yorkshire Bank, which he joined when he left school at 16 years old.
Having worked as a freelance mortgage broker for the last two years, Steven new role provided the chance he wanted to return to working in a team environment.
Each branch manager within the Newcastle ’s network has responsibility for offering the products, services, support and advice that meet local customers’ requirements.
Steven Hillary says: “The branch is set in a fantastic, historic location and we get a real cross-section of local people coming in who I’m enjoying getting to know.
“I’ve always enjoyed being part of a team, and have settled in very quickly to leading what is an excellent group of staff that I hope to be able to help develop their own careers over time.”
Heather Perry, Branch Divisional Manager at Newcastle Building Society, adds: “Our branch network is at the core of what we are as a mutual organisation – while we’ve broadened our services through telephone and internet-based operations, it is at the heart of our custom-facing operations.
“The relationships that our branch teams develop and maintain in their local area are vital in ensuring we understand what’s important to our customers and are offering them the right sorts of products and services.
“Steven has already built an impressive career track record in financial services, and it’s great to have him back with us in this new role.”
