3 simple ways you can declutter faster and more effectively

The past year has meant that many of us have been confined to our homes. To keep busy, there has been a rise in decluttering. In fact, the pandemic inspired so much decluttering, that lots of charity shops had to cut off donations quite early on as warehouses were already filled.

Decluttering your entire house can take a lot of time and effort, especially when this stuff could have been piling up for years. Luckily, many of us have welcomed this as a distraction from worldwide events.

Now that it has been a year, people are keen to get back to ‘normal’, starting to go back to work and school when they can. This means there is less time in the day for all the odd jobs, hobbies and housework. And, for that decluttering that we have got used to doing.

If you have become accustomed to having a decluttered house during the pandemic, though you might have less time, you can still keep everything tidy. To keep that clutter-free household, here are 3 simple ways that you can declutter faster and more effectively.

1. Set clear specific goals

With any kind of task, big or small, it is always useful to set yourself some goals. In fact, it is said that those who have written goals are 20% more likely to succeed. These goals need to be clear and specific so that you can push yourself to achieve the desired result.

Think about things such as the frequency of which you will declutter, when you want it to be done by, and how much you would like to keep. Achievable timeframes and workloads can really motivate you to keep going, as we all know it can be super satisfying to tick another thing off your list!

So, whether you put a set amount of time aside once a week, or you continuously declutter as you go about your day, remember to keep going.

2. Have enough storage space in your house

Before you start sorting through your clutter, it is critical to make sure that you have enough space in your home to be able to store the things you want to keep. One way to increase your storage space is to consider loft boarding.

Instaloft provides a great loft boarding service that can increase your floor space by up to 50%. With a fitted loft ladder, you can get a safe and easily accessible storage space, which even adds value to your property.

3. Be ruthless

Throughout the whole process, try to be ruthless. Sort your clutter into 4 piles: bin, donate or sell, keep, and storage. Once an item is to be binned or donated- chuck it! Don’t be tempted to second-guess yourself.

Keep reminding yourself of the goals that you set right at the beginning to motivate you in your newfound ruthlessness. After all, the more stuff you can get rid of in one session, the faster and more effective you can make your house clutter free.
