Level 3 diploma plumbing students from Keighley College visited David Wilson Homes’ Hewenden Ridge development in Cullingworth last week to get a first-hand feel for their future careers.
- 10 students, aged between 18 and 36 met the site team to find out more about working on a development under construction, and to support the theory they are learning in the classroom
- As part of the visit, Site Manager at Hewenden Ridge, Joshua Whitehead, delivered a talk to the pupils to share his insight on housebuilding and their chosen profession. Students then explored the development on a guided tour, to see how the five-star housebuilder incorporates plumbing systems into its homes, and to see these systems in situ

“We were delighted to have students from Keighley College join us for a ‘behind-the scenes’ experience of a working construction site to help them get a feel for the practical elements of their course. It’s vital to us to support the communities in which we build, and education is a big part of that. We want to encourage and show young people of all ages and backgrounds that housebuilding is a rewarding career available to them in their local area through activities such as site visits, and also tackle the skills shortage the construction industry faces by inspiring the next generation of housebuilders.”
