North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

MIDDLESBGROUGH residents are being urged to do their bit for the environment as part of International Compost Awareness Week.

The Council wants more people to get composting with a fantastic offer promoted in partnership with www.getcomposting.com

Discounted compost converters are on offer from as little as *£17.98 and with the fantastic Buy One Get One Half Price offer, residents can purchase a second compost converter from only*£8.99.

As well as compost bins, food waste digesters and hot composters enable householders to compost all of their household food waste

The Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP) estimates that the use of a home compost bin diverts approximately 150 kilogrammes of waste per household away from landfill sites each year.

It is simple to do and once you get started, you will be surprised at just how much daily household waste can be recycled.

Councillor Denise Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Commercial Services, said: “More than 30% of the average household waste can be composted and although many households already compost at home, we want others to get involved.

“This is a great incentive to encourage more residents to get composting and set up their own composting communities sharing the rewards.

“Home composting organic waste also helps to significantly reduce carbon emissions and can also be used as an effective and sustainable waste management method to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

“So why not give composting a go?”
