Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 12.00.00A NORTH EAST care home resident will be celebrating a landmark birthday, joined by a great grandson born 100 years after her.

Hilda Young, originally from Walker, will be marking the special occasion at Brooke House, Newcastle on July 30 joined by all of her family and friends.

And among the dozens of people turning up to share the special day will be the latest addition to the family, baby Harry Lyddol, who was born just five weeks ago.

Harry – who has also been given the middle name Ted in memory of Hilda’s husband – will be among the 10 great grandchildren, five grandchildren and two daughters who help Hilda celebrate.

Hilda went to school in Gosforth before moving to Dinnington, working for a time at Kirkley Hall before concentrating on bringing up her two daughters, Lynda and Shirley.

“She has always been there for us,” said Lynda.

“She’s been a fantastic mother and was always fiercely independent. She lived on her own until she was 98 before she moved into Brooke House.

“She loves it there because there’s plenty of people for her to talk to and they’ve been fantastic about us holding a party for her.”

Donna Bateman, Administrator at Brooke House, Ronald Drive, said that the home was looking forward to helping her special day.

“Hilda is a really popular resident and we’re looking forward to helping make the day special for her,” said Donna.

Brooke House is part of Prestwick Care of Malhotra Group PLC which runs care homes across the North East.

The latest addition to the group is Melton House in Gosforth which opens in September, followed by a purpose-built 87 bedroomed home in Alnwick, due to completed by the end of 2016.
