Fostering Plus initiative

203A new initiative has been set up to offer extra support to foster carers and children.

Set up by Durham County Council’s fostering service, Fostering Plus is specifically for children who need extra support to live as part of a family.

The new initiative offers intensive support, including therapeutic support, dedicated social workers and family support workers available on evenings and weekends. A training package is also available to help people develop the skills needed to care for a young person.

Anyone interested is invited to find our more at an information session on Saturday 3 October at County Hall, Durham, between 10.00am and 2.00pm.

Florence Coulter, fostering team manager, at Durham County Council, said: “Fostering Plus is a great opportunity for people who want to make a difference to children. We have children who have been through some difficult times in their life and they need help to cope with their feelings and emotions.

“We would like to reassure anyone thinking about fostering that there is plenty of support available from a range of professionals and with Fostering Plus, extra support is available.

“Our information session is a great opportunity for anyone thinking about fostering to come along and find out more.”
