FILM SCORES FROM ARRIVAL, TRON AND FORBIDDEN PLANET ADDED TO SCI-FI FILM PROM, ALONGSIDE INTERSTELLAR, UNDER THE SKIN, GRAVITY AND ALIEN: COVENANT
FULL LINE UP OF ‘THE SOUND OF SPACE: SCI-FI FILM MUSIC’ PROM ANNOUNCED
The full line up for ‘The Sound of Space: Sci-Fi Film Music’ Prom have today been announced, as the BBC Proms take on a futuristic spin with some of the most loved sci-fi film and television soundtracks in a ‘Late Night’ special.
Being added to the programme are excerpts from the some of the genre’s favourite soundtracks from Arrival by Jóhann Jóhannsson, Tron (1982) by Wendy Carlos, and Forbidden Planet by Louis and Bebe Barron.
These additions will join the line-up with excerpts from previously announced Sci-Fi cult classics Interstellar by Hans Zimmer, Under the Skin by Mica Levi, Moon by Clint Mansell, Gravity by Steven Price,Sunshine by John Murphy and The Innocents by Carly Paradis.
Performing on the night will be Gravity composer Steven Price, The Innocents composer Carly Paradis joined by singer-songwriter EERA, Alien: Covenant composer Jed Kurzel with vocalist Lisa Hannigan. They will join the award-winning London Contemporary Orchestra – whose collaborators include Radiohead, Goldfrapp and Steve Reich, and conductor Robert Ames.
‘The Sound of Space: Sci-Fi Film Music’ marks a first for BBC Proms, as this year celebrates 50 years since Apollo 11 landed on the moon. This year’s series of space themed Proms seek to explore how composers across centuries have imagined and created the sound of space, perhaps most poignantly represented through cinema. Music played a fundamental part in immersing audiences in the creative imagining of worlds and environments which have never previously existed, the isolation and emptiness of space, and the fight for human survival in such conditions.

The Sound of Space: Sci-Fi Film Music will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday August 7th at 10:15pm and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and broadcast on BBC Four on August 9th.
Seated tickets are still available and £6 ‘Promming’ tickets can be purchased on the day of the Prom.
