SOME of the finest and fastest vehicles from almost 100 years of motoring are set to pull into the grounds of one of the North East’s best loved venues, for a classic car extravaganza.
On Sunday 11 October, around 75 vehicles – some dating back almost a century – will be on show at Wynyard Hall Hotel, Tees Valley, adjacent to the recently opened Walled Garden.
Among them will be a 1930s Rolls Royce, which featured in the TV show Heartbeat, a Lotus from the 1990s a 1967 Morris 1000 and a 1954 Ferguson tractor.
They will have travelled to Wynyard Hall from across the region and the show’s organiser Paul Jackson, of the Newton Aycliffe-based Northern Bygones Society, hopes as many people as possible will come along and see them.
“We’ve got vehicles from just about every decade,” he said, “so they’ll bring back lots of memories for older visitors, while youngsters will really enjoy seeing how automotives have changed over the years.
The Society stages up to 15 car shows a year but this is its first outing to Wynyard Hall and Paul said: “We’re over the moon to be coming to Wynyard.
“It’s a fabulous setting and the Walled Garden development will be the perfect backdrop for the cars.”
Containing more than 3000 roses, the Walled Garden is the second stage in a rolling programme of work to create The Gardens at Wynyard Hall – which will eventually cover four acres and be one of the largest rose gardens in the UK.
The £1.6m development, which has its own driveway and extensive car park, also features a state-of-the-art visitor centre, shop and café, all of which will be open on the day.
The car show, which is free to attend, will take place between 10am and 3pm, with tickets for the Walled Garden priced at £5.
