STOCKTON-ON-TEES Borough Council has approved a ten year strategy which will ensure residents continue to have access to high quality sports facilities.
On Thursday 12 November the Council’s Cabinet agreed a new Playing Pitch Strategy for 2015-2025.
The strategy is aimed at protecting and enhancing sports facilities as well as providing new ones where they are needed.
It also outlines a series of investment opportunities to improve existing playing pitch sites over the next ten years, ranging across seven sports and seven types of facility.
These include football, cricket, rugby union and rugby league pitches as well as bowling greens, tennis courts and artificial grass pitches.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Our Borough has a fine sporting tradition and we know how important our playing pitches are to local people.
“This strategy reflects our commitment to maintaining and improving leisure facilities for use and enjoyment by our Borough’s residents and sporting clubs now and in future years.
“It will help us to identify investment opportunities to improve existing playing pitch sites, while also enabling us to meet the targets and standards set by bodies such as Sport England and the Football Association.”
