Conditional agreement for lease on part of Wentworth Street Car Park (WSCP), Malton
Due to changes in market conditions and the changes outlined in the Chancellor’s Statement about how Council’s will be funded in the future I have decided it is now the right time for the Council to consider terminating the conditional agreement for lease with GMI Holbeck Land (Malton) Ltd on part of the land at WSCP. I will be making a recommendation to terminate the conditional agreement to the Extra-ordinary Council meeting on Thursday 14 January 2016.
Ryedale District Council has a duty to get the best consideration for all their assets and this is what we have been trying to achieve. I now intend to take time to consider the options available to maximise the use of this strategic underutilised asset. This will take account of development needs and opportunities, the Ryedale Local Plan Strategy and a wider review of the Council’s asset holdings responding to recent changes to local government finance. Any future plans will be consulted upon, seeking views of our residents and businesses and will include working with other towns and landowners in Ryedale.
I am aware that this has caused differences of opinion with Malton Town Council and Fitzwilliam (Malton) Estate and I look forward to the opportunity for us to work together for the benefit of Ryedale.
