The countdown to Hambleton’s new recycling service has begun.
New blue lidded recycling bins are now in production in Rotherham with the first batch being delivered to a secure location near Northallerton
“We hope that weather permitting deliveries of the new bin will start on 1 February and will be complete by 28 February. A leaflet giving further details of the new scheme will be delivered at the same time,” said Councillor Brian Phillips, Portfolio Holder for Environmental and Planning Services (pictured with the new bins).
“Most residents will receive a third bin which will allow a greater range of materials to be recycled at the kerbside – more plastics, more cardboard, paper, foil, cartons, cans and aerosols can all go in the new bin. Glass will also be collected – in the existing blue box and the blue bag will become obsolete. There will be alternative arrangements available for non-standard properties.
“The new kerbside system should see us hit our target of recycling and composting 53% of household waste by 2020 – which will make us the top performer in North Yorkshire and 3% above the national target. Success depends on residents making best use of the service and striving to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste they produce.”
The first collections of the new wheeled bins and boxes will be week commencing 29 February for those whose recycling is collected on black bin week and the week after for those on green bin week recycling collections.
Displays promoting the new service will be placed in council offices, libraries, leisure centres and other community halls.
