London, 29 April 2022 – The Grenadier is a modern, workhorse 4X4 designed, engineered and built to world-class standards. Starting from £49,000 RRP in the UK, its simple model line-up provides the basis for buyers to easily select and configure their perfect Grenadier with a wide range of options and accessories.
A WORKHORSE VEHICLE WITH COMFORT AND REFINEMENT AS STANDARD
The Grenadier is available as a two-seat Utility Wagon and a five-seat Station Wagon.
The Grenadier Utility Wagon variant is a blank canvas ready to be configured for the exact needs of customers. It is built for those needing a stripped back, no nonsense workhorse, but still with the comfort, refinement and standard features that today’s drivers expect. Designed to carry loads, the Utility Wagon has two seats, and is certified as a commercial vehicle. It comes with a full-height cargo barrier and a full-length flat floor capable of taking a standard Euro pallet (1,200mm x 800mm). Customers can opt for a rear side window instead of the standard blank panel at no extra cost.
The standard five-seat Grenadier Station Wagon is also certified as a commercial vehicle and is fitted with a cargo barrier, to provide the optimum balance between payload and passenger carrying capability. Two further five-seat Station Wagon Belstaff editions have a greater emphasis on passenger comfort than load space capacity, with more knee room for second row passengers compared with the standard five-seater.
HIGH-SPEC BELSTAFF EDITIONS: FOR EVERY ADVENTURE
In addition to the standard specification Grenadier, INEOS Automotive also offers two pre-configured vehicle editions that reflect Belstaff’s and INEOS Automotive’s shared philosophy for producing authentic, uncompromising products that are engineered to last. Creating premium outerwear since 1924, Belstaff is known for its iconic waxed cotton jackets and its pioneering and progressive spirit.
The Grenadier Trialmaster and Fieldmaster Editions, which can be selected on the non-commercial five-seat Station Wagon, have both been curated with specific purposes in mind and are built to take on the outdoors.
The Trialmaster Edition has been specified with extreme off-roading in mind. It is named after the iconic Belstaff Trialmaster Jacket, which was created in 1948 at the request of professional Trials biker and Irishman, Sammy Miller, and was designed to cope with the gruelling conditions of the Scottish Six Days Trial. While the Grenadier Trialmaster Edition also gets the Smooth Pack features, it has an entirely different personality thanks in part to the additional Rough Pack. This adds front and rear diff locks and the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tyres. With functionality and versatility the top priority, the Grenadier Trialmaster Edition also gets a host of additional practical kit, including a raised air intake, exterior utility belts, and an auxiliary battery. This is the Grenadier for customers that are passionate about hardcore off-roading and tackling the toughest terrain on the most extreme expeditions.
The Grenadier Fieldmaster Edition is named after the iconic Belstaff Fieldmaster Jacket, which is designed for life in the outdoors. It is specified for those with an adventure lifestyle who will use their vehicle to get them and their kit to wherever they want to go. It comes with the Smooth Pack, a collection of comfort and convenience features that makes the Grenadier even easier to use in every situation. It includes a rear-view camera, puddle lamps, power heated door mirrors and auxiliary USB power outlets. Other additional premium enhancements include 17-inch alloy wheels (with the option to upgrade to 18-inch alloy wheels), Safari Windows, leather upholstery, carpet floor mats and heated front seats. Whether towing a horsebox, hauling kayaks to the river, or going wild camping, the Grenadier Fieldmaster Edition makes outdoor adventures even more accessible.
CUSTOMISATION FOR ALL
All versions of the Grenadier are uncompromising, highly capable 4X4 vehicles. Even the standard Utility Wagon models offer everything most users will need: peerless off-roading capability, refined on-road driveability, and a functional, modern, comfortable interior. But every customer is unique, so every Grenadier can be customised to suit the specific role they will play for their owner.
From launch, INEOS will offer a wide range of factory-fit options, the pre-packaged Rough and Smooth options packs, and an extensive choice of accessories. An open-source approach means customers can affix existing kit, and pre-wired electric access points mean fitting lights and other powered accessories is straightforward.
SIMPLIFIED ORDERING PROCESS
Order books and an enhanced online configurator go live from 18 May. While thousands of reservists around the world have priority to secure their build slot, anyone in the launch markets* can configure and order their Grenadier.
The online configurator at ineosgrenadier.com takes customers through the build of their perfect Grenadier, step-by-step, and for customers in most major launch markets, the vehicle price updates in real time†. An online finance calculator† is part of the process, too, and through a partnership with Auto Trader, customers can get an indication of what the part exchange valuation could be for their current car, prior to inspection by a sales agent. With transparency and no negotiation with dealers to worry about, the price shown on the configurator is the price customers will pay.
Once they’ve settled on their configuration, customers will be able to choose their collection location – an interactive map showing nearest retailers will be available on the website. A deposit payment of £2,500 – refundable until the vehicle contract is signed – secures a build slot.
CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR EVERY STEP
INEOS Automotive has opened its UK-based customer contact centre to support those just beginning to learn about the Grenadier as well as those who need help as they finalise their order. Customers can get in touch by phone, email, and via live webchats.
The English and German desks are open from 7am to 7pm on weekdays. Italian, Spanish and French speaking support staff are available between 8am and 5pm.
From 3 May, the English service will be available 24/7, German will be available between 7am and 7pm weekdays and 8am-4pm on weekends. The Italian, Spanish and French language service will be available between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. All times are BST.
TOTAL SUPPORT FOR OWNERS
By removing unnecessary complexity, stripping back electronics and providing accessible information, there’s less to go wrong and, if it does, it’s easy to fix. From the full box-section ladder frame to the corrosion-resistant and galvanised body, every component on the Grenadier is engineered for strength and built to last. INEOS has taken the best possible engine, gearbox, axle and transfer case combination for the Grenadier and specifically tuned them to accomplish the task in hand.
Service, parts and manuals
Once they’ve taken delivery of their Grenadier, customers will have the reassurance of comprehensive aftersales support from INEOS.
Retailers will be the backbone of the service network, providing maintenance, repair and parts. Additional geographical coverage will be provided by hand-picked INEOS-accredited Bosch Car Service and independent 4X4 specialist workshops. The aim is for most customers to always be within 45 minutes of an authorised service point. ‘Flying Spanner’ technicians from INEOS HQ are on-call if the service network needs additional support. Roadside assistance will also be included as standard with every Grenadier. For all owners, help will never be far away.
INEOS Automotive recommends a regular 12-month servicing interval for the Grenadier; or six-month servicing for continuous tough environments.
For owners who want to carry out work on their Grenadier themselves, INEOS will provide online 3D interactive manuals with support from the technical team at INEOS HQ just a call or a click away. The vehicle has been deliberately designed and engineered to be easy to work on inside and out.
The INEOS-accredited service network will hold stock of common parts to ensure customers can get back on the road quickly. Any parts that aren’t on the shelf in the network will be dispatched from a 6,000m2 global parts hub in Belgium by express courier.
After 1.1 million miles of testing and development, INEOS is confident in the Grenadier’s durability and reliability. So, it provides the peace-of-mind of a comprehensive warranty. Complete vehicle warranty provision is as follows:

INEOS GRENADIER – BUILT ON PURPOSE
The Grenadier is a built-on-purpose 4X4, with serious off-road capability, designed to prioritise function over form. It features award-winning engines, a ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel-drive, up to three locking differentials and solid beam axles. Learning from the best off-roaders of the past and partnering with world-leading suppliers, INEOS Automotive has designed a true utilitarian workhorse that’s comfortable, practical, durable and reliable, meeting the expectations of the 21st century 4X4 driver.
TIMELESS EASY-TO-READ DESIGN
The Grenadier is a modern, functional and highly capable 4X4 vehicle with utility at its core. The design is ‘easy-to-read’, with no ambiguity about the vehicle’s role – it’s there to do everything the owner needs and nothing is for show. Starting from a clean sheet, there is no compromise on any angle.
The result is a timeless form, dictated by the purpose of the vehicle. It is an honest design, evocative of the iconic 4X4s of the past: boxy to maximise space efficiency; wheels positioned far into the corners of the chassis for off-road capability; straightforward, simple lines punctuated only by practical features and no superficial styling.
Round lamps at the front and rear imply the strength of a solid tube running from front to back. The front lamp clusters are the same units on the left and the right, making service and parts availability easier; similarly, the rear lamps are a common unit. The centre LED auxiliary high beam lights (included as standard) are integrated into the front grille and provide an extra 1,080 lumens when off-road.
The flat front wings are ideal for resting kit on. The belt line along the bodysides is functional – bump strips are included as standard, or the optional utility belt can be added for attaching a raft of accessories.
POWERTRAIN FOR TACKLING EVERY EVENTUALITY
The Grenadier has been designed to be as fun to drive on the road as it is off. Pairing award-winning engines with a renowned transmission, the two have been tuned and calibrated to ensure great driveability on any road – from city streets and motorways to twisty mountain tracks.
Award-winning BMW power
The Grenadier has been developed to be refined on the road and extraordinarily capable off-road. Reliable and durable engines and a proven transmission have been tuned and calibrated specifically for the Grenadier. Whatever its intended use, Grenadier owners need unquestionable reliability from the powertrain. So, INEOS Automotive hand-picked the best suppliers from the automotive industry and took their quality components through an arduous testing regime of 1.1 million miles, in all climates, in all conditions, across all terrains.
The Grenadier is powered by a choice of two straight-six, 3.0-litre BMW engines. Both the BMW B57 diesel and B58 petrol powertrains have a proven track record, regularly appearing in top ten world’s best engine lists since 2016. They have been used in everything from sports cars to SUVs.
The two power units bring BMW’s sophistication and refinement to the Grenadier, but they have been enhanced by INEOS Automotive’s engineering team. As well as providing powerful acceleration on tarmac, they also deliver peak torque at low revs – sustaining it through the rev range – for optimal off-road performance.
The carefully calibrated characteristics help the driver to confidently manage the vehicle’s momentum and grip without stressing the engine, ensuring full control when tackling tricky terrain. The refined turbo petrol engine produces 286PS (210kW) and 450Nm (332 lb ft) of torque, while the twin-turbo diesel generates 249PS (183kW) and 550Nm (406 lb ft), for even greater pulling power. Start/stop is built-in, increasing range and preserving air quality when the vehicle is stationary.
Every Grenadier variant can be powered by either the petrol or the diesel engine (depending on markets), and the selection doesn’t affect the vehicle price.
Whichever is chosen, the Grenadier’s engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox from industry leader, ZF. With an impressive track record since hitting the market in 2008, and with generational updates to improve performance, ZF8HP transmissions enjoy wide use in the automotive industry.
Providing smooth multi-gear shifts in under 200ms and ensuring constant power to the wheels, the renowned transmission extracts maximum engine performance with virtually seamless shifts to maintain momentum. For drivers who wish to take control, manual mode can be selected.
Designed to always select the right gear, it effortlessly adapts to whatever terrain the Grenadier is tackling. Enhanced with a heavy-duty torque converter, proven by the Grenadier’s extreme testing programme, it’s tuned for all conditions, simplifies off-road driving, and offers an ‘eyes on the trail, hands on the wheel’ experience.
Two-speed transfer case and permanent four-wheel drive
The Grenadier is only offered with permanent four-wheel-drive to ensure reliable and instant traction on any surface. This level of traction is made possible thanks to a two-speed transfer case from industry leader, Tremec, alongside CV joints and propshafts from automotive specialist, Dana Spicer.
The durable, manually-operated two-speed transfer case has a built-in centre differential which is lockable in both high and low range.
Manufactured by Tremec, but designed by INEOS Automotive, it’s been tested in the harshest environments and its low-range ratio of 2.5:1 provides greater precision, control, and increased torque. Featuring an external oil cooling system, it’s been optimised to ensure smooth running and reliability in all conditions.
Up to three differential locks for ultimate traction
As well as the centre locking differential in the transfer case, two optional electronically actuated diff locks are available, front and rear, with 100% mechanical engagement. The front and rear diff locks can be independently toggled from the overhead control panel and automatically disengage at 75km/h to protect the drivetrain. Manufactured by Eaton Industries, the front and rear diff locks are standard on the Trialmaster trim, and optional on all others.
OFF-ROAD GEOMETRY
The Grenadier is designed to be a capable off-road workhorse. To meet this requirement, a wheel at each corner ensures short overhangs front and rear, a ladder-frame chassis offers excellent ground clearance, while a high engine air intake offers confidence when wading through water.
- Ground clearance: 264mm
- Wading depth: 800mm
- Approach angle: 35.5˚
- Breakover angle: 28.2˚
- Departure angle: 36.1˚
Box-section ladder frame chassis
The foundation of the Grenadier is a full box-section ladder frame chassis. Simple, strong and stable, it’s designed to withstand daily punishment in all conditions, mile after mile. Its steel section is up to 3.5mm thick for outstanding rigidity and stiffness. Maximum protection against corrosion comes from a full E-coat treatment, internal cavity wax application and an exterior powder coat. Paying testament to the brand’s confidence in its durability, the ladder-frame is backed by INEOS Automotive’s class-leading 12-year, anti-perforation warranty.
Solid beam axles for optimum strength
Heavy-duty beam axles are essential for tackling extreme off-road terrain and carrying heavy loads. By channelling power from the Grenadier’s propshafts via a 4:1 differential ratio to the wheels, they ensure maximum traction on any surface. Developed in partnership with Carraro – an expert with over 50 years’ experience making heavy-duty tractor axles for the likes of John Deere and Claas – they’re strong, straightforward, and built to last.
Ultimate underride protection
INEOS Automotive has designed the Grenadier to handle the most extreme environments, and inevitable impacts. The Grenadier’s standard underride protection includes front and rear skid plates as well as fuel tank protection. It’s key to keeping the vehicle going, ensuring the Grenadier’s essential components are shielded when working off-road. The high-quality powder coat finish also safeguards the Grenadier’s underride protection against stone chips and off-road scrapes.
PRECISION HANDLING FOR ON- AND OFF-ROAD
Off road, the Grenadier pulls no punches. While it’s every inch a rugged 4X4, it ticks all the right boxes on the road, too. The chassis combines a five-link suspension setup with Brembo brakes and Bridgestone tyres, meaning the Grenadier is composed, well-mannered and fun to drive no matter what the terrain.
The Grenadier is equally at home on the road as it is off-road. Core to this is its suspension design, featuring progressive springs, anti-roll bars, and a five-link setup, which combine to provide dynamic handling and a comfortable ride, whatever the load.
The Grenadier’s coil springs are made by suspension specialists, Eibach, offering superior flex with nine degrees of front axle articulation and 12 degrees at the rear. Enabling more than 600mm of travel to maintain grip and make light work of driving over extreme uneven ground, they’re low maintenance, lightweight, durable and generate minimal friction.
The Grenadier features a highly responsive brake system, with disks, pads and callipers all supplied by industry leader, Brembo. Together, the components ensure impressive stopping power, even with a gross train mass (the combined fully laden vehicle and trailer weight) of up to seven tonnes. Proven in extreme conditions during prototype testing, the Brembo setup is perfect for the Grenadier.
INEOS Automotive’s winter-rated Bridgestone Dueler All-Terrain 001 tyres with 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) certification ensure the Grenadier drives as well off-road as it does on it, with a bespoke tread designed for the Grenadier to perform in both snow and mud. Improved grip, control and comfort in the toughest conditions, the Bridgestone Duelers ensure all the stopping power from the Brembo brakes transfers straight to the road, in all conditions.
For extreme terrain or challenging conditions, drivers can choose the more aggressive tread of the optional BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tyres.
All tyres have strong, deep reinforced sidewalls for added puncture resistance, plus tyre pressure monitoring as standard.
The Grenadier rides on traditional, hard-wearing 17-inch steel wheels as standard, with 18-inch steel, 17-inch alloy and 18-inch alloy options available. All use a six-stud pattern with a 130mm Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD), and are available with both Bridgestone and BFGoodrich tyres. Owners can also choose locking wheel nuts to keep the wheels secure.
Selectable driving modes for precision driving
Key convenience and safety features developed for on-road driving can be redundant off-road. That’s why the Grenadier features an Off-Road Mode to disable parking sensors, seatbelt reminders and engine start-stop.
The integrated Wading Mode ensures the vehicle is optimally set up for wading, including monitoring engine temperature and disabling the engine fan when safe to do so.
For maximum confidence when off-road, the central touchscreen displays relevant information for the driver, including vehicle attitude, steering angle, system temperatures and drivetrain utilisation.
Downhill Assist dynamically brakes individual wheels to enhance control of the Grenadier on extreme descents. Uphill Assist, meanwhile, automatically holds the Grenadier in position after the driver releases the handbrake, and provides added safety when tackling steeper terrain.
REFINED FOR ULTIMATE COMFORT
The Grenadier may be a rough, tough off-road utility vehicle, but there’s much more to it than first meets the eye. Featuring a refined interior with a spacious, airy cabin equipped with supportive RECARO seats, the Grenadier offers the comfort expected by today’s customer. A smooth civilised ride makes even the longest journeys a pleasure, whether crossing a continent, tackling a lengthy commute, or taking a long-anticipated family trip.
Its smooth ride and quiet cabin make the Grenadier a comfortable place to be. This is possible thanks to the Grenadier’s body being isolated from the ladder-frame by eight chassis mounts, reducing body vibrations and insulating passengers from bumps in the road as a result.
The Grenadier loves a bit of mud and it can easily be washed down, inside and out. Five interior drain valves mean owners can hose out the floor without concerns of damaging interior materials. An IP54K rating for critical components in the cabin ensures the odd splash won’t damage the switch gear or electronics.
INEOS Automotive has gone back to basics to create an interior that’s functional, intuitive, and comfortable. Where possible, the Grenadier remains analogue and mechanical. Benefiting from big, clearly labelled and well-spaced buttons for use with gloves, the centrally-located controls offer simple and safe operation for both driver and co-driver. The Grenadier’s overhead control panel keeps off-road switch gear out of the way, while guards provide protection on important switches to avoid inadvertent operation. All the info is conveniently displayed on one screen to provide maximum visibility.
Highly supportive eight-way, manually adjustable RECARO seats have been specially designed for the Grenadier. Optimised lateral back support keeps the driver and passengers comfortable and secure, while low profile cushion bolsters mean it’s easy to get in and out. The standard seating upholstery is a combination of hard-wearing tough cloth and vinyl that are stain-, dirt- and water-resistant, and are easy to clean. Supple full-grain leather seats – in black, or in two-tone black-and-grey – are available as an option. Leather front seats are heated as standard, with heated front seats an option for the standard cloth and vinyl trim.
Safari Windows offer additional light and fresh air into the cabin. Closed, ventilated, or removed completely, the tinted Safari Windows above the driver and co-driver come as standard on the Fieldmaster Edition, or as an option on all other variants. When removed, they can be stored safely in the dedicated bag provided.
Unobstructed visibility for ultimate wheel placement
A commanding driving position, large wing mirrors and the instrument cluster on the central touchscreen all contribute to unobstructed sight of both front corners and optimum visibility when driving off-road. This helps with pinpoint wheel placement when tackling tricky off-road terrain.
The touchscreen can also display a clear view of the steering angle for added reassurance.
Parking sensors, standard at the rear and optional at the front, help the Grenadier to offer excellent urban situational awareness, too, and simplify manoeuvrability in and out of tight spaces. An optional rear-view camera – included as standard on Belstaff editions – further aids rear visibility and helps in hitching-up a trailer, too.
Control at the driver’s fingertips
In terms of driving information, everything the driver needs to know is in one place, from speed, gear and fuel level, through to tyre pressures, maps, media, phonebook, current bearing, co-ordinates, steering angle, vehicle attitude, and more. The Grenadier’s Central Control System, designed specifically for INEOS Automotive, displays all required information via an easy-to-control 12.3-inch touchscreen, which can be accessed using the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel or the rotary controller on the centre console.
The Grenadier comes with a DAB+ radio as standard. Passengers can easily access playlists and podcasts with Android™ Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay®, while Bluetooth connectivity and voice control allow for hands-free calls. Power is always on tap, with USB-A, USB-C and 12V sockets as standard. Extra outlets can be added as an option.
Android™ Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay® (both included as standard) take care of on-road navigation needs, using Waze, Google Maps, or whatever compatible app the driver chooses. Off-road, owners can use INEOS Automotive’s Pathfinder navigation system (included as standard), which has been specifically developed for adventures in the Grenadier. Pathfinder enables the driver to plot GPS waypoints, save and share .GPX files.
An optional compass and altimeter are included on Trialmaster and Fieldmaster Editions, with both conveniently integrated into the centre console.
Adaptability is built into the Grenadier. Open-source pre-wiring offers all the equipment the driver needs at their fingertips. The Grenadier is equipped with three 10A circuits as standard, switchable from the overhead control panel. For heavy duty applications, including light bars and winches, owners can choose the high load auxiliary switch panel, which provides four extra circuits (three 25A and one 500A), plus four integrated, weather-proof, roof-mounted sockets.
Safe and secure
Even in a tough, back-to-basics 4X4 utility vehicle, modern safety features matter. As such, the Grenadier equipped with range of in-built safety systems as standard.
The Grenadier is equipped as standard with two front airbags, two curtain airbags, and two side airbags for driver and front passenger. The Grenadier also features ISOFIX/iSize child seat anchor points for each of the two outboard rear seats on five-seat models.

An advanced anti-theft alarm and immobiliser (Thatcham Cat. 1) is fitted as standard.
††: SOS Emergency Call is included for: EU, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain
PULLING ITS WEIGHT
Whatever they need to move, Grenadier owners can load it, tow it, drag it, recover it, or strap it to the roof. Offering a braked 3.5-tonne towing capacity, more than 2,000 litres of load space and 5.5 tonnes of winching power for recovering themselves or others, the Grenadier is the ultimate load lugger.
Carrying the burden
The Grenadier is built to tackle any task and is engineered to maximise payload and carry what’s required of it. The two-seat Utility Wagon can accommodate a standard euro pallet, with a volume capacity of 2,088 litres. The five-seat Utility Wagon has a load space of 1,255 litres behind the cargo barrier.
With its 60:40 split folding rear bench seat folded flat, the five-seat Station Wagon provides 2,035 litres of load space. With the rear seats in use, the load space in the five-seat Station Wagon is a class-leading 1,152 litres.
When it comes to securing cargo, the Grenadier provides flexibility inside and on top. A total of 10 integrated tie-down rings come as standard in the Station Wagon – 12 in the Utility Wagon models. Flush, floor-mounted interior cargo rails, an adaptable cargo securing system, as well as a range of barriers and partitions to organise loads are available as part of a range of additional cargo management options and accessories.
The Grenadier’s reinforced roof structure gives it best-in-class roof loading capabilities. Built-in roof rails and rubber protection strips come as standard and have been designed to allow owners to secure kit directly to the Grenadier’s roof any time with minimal fuss. For more regular roof loading, owners can specify the Rhino Rack roof rack with a 150kg** dynamic load capacity. When parked up the Grenadier can carry up to 420kg on the roof.
The Grenadier’s 3.5-tonne towing capacity is available with both civilian and commercial towing attachments. Coupled with INEOS Automotive’s vertical towing interface – which accommodates numerous different towbar and towball fitments – the Grenadier has serious flexibility and towing ability. To improve safety, handling and driveability, Trailer Stability Assist comes as standard.
Unlike many of its heroes from the past, and even some class competitors of today, a tight loading space is no problem for the Grenadier. Its unique 30/70 split rear doors offer excellent flexibility whatever the load. The 30 door offers quick and easy access for smaller items and, when full width is required, the 70 door can be opened to provide unrestricted loading of larger items.
Always looking to maximise functional practicality, INEOS Automotive has flipped the spare wheel mounted on the 70 door. Now facing ‘the wrong way’, it allows what is otherwise dead space inside the wheel rim to be used as useful storage. A lockable compartment provides a handy, secure and quickly accessible place to stow belongings such as mucky boots and a wet jacket.
The optional factory-fit, high-performance winch from NATO supplier Red Winches, is strong, precision-engineered and fully integrated into the front bumper. With that providing 5.5 tonnes of winching power, the Grenadier is always prepared, whatever the task.
INEOS Automotive’s optional aluminium access ladder mounted to the 30 rear door provides a strong and stable route to the roof. Rated for 150kg, the access ladder is both E-coated and powder coated for maximum strength and durability.

PERSONALISATION
Colours
The Grenadier is available in six solid and four metallic body colours. To complement the selected body paint finish, owners can choose either a black or white contrast roof.
The six solid colours are: Scottish White; Magic Mushroom; Eldoret Blue; Britannia Blue; Sela Green; Inky Black. The four metallic colours are: Shale Blue; Queen’s Red; Donny Grey; Sterling Silver.
Additional design personalisation can be made through contrast accents. Taking inspiration from popular liveries used on the Grenadier development prototypes that tested in plain sight, customers can choose a contrast door wrap and / or a contrast nose wrap on production vehicles.
The available contrast accent wraps are Tunic Red and Emergency Orange (both solid). Possible body colour and accent combinations are confirmed on the online configurator.
In recognition that INEOS Automotive’s tough ladder frame chassis sets the brand apart from others, instead of the standard black powder coat finish, customers can opt to have the ladder frame in red or grey powder coat finish.
TRUE TO SIR JIM’S VISION
In 2017, INEOS Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a car enthusiast and experienced adventurer, identified a gap in the market for a stripped back, utilitarian, hard-working 4X4 engineered for modern day compliance and reliability. The idea to develop a vehicle from scratch was developed by Sir Jim and some friends in their favourite pub, The Grenadier in Belgravia, London, which inspired the vehicle’s name. INEOS Automotive Limited was formed and a senior team of automotive professionals assembled to bring the vision to reality with a fresh perspective of 4X4 development and manufacturing.
The Grenadier has come to life over the last five years, combining rugged British spirit and design with German engineering rigour. The team has not wavered in its razor-sharp focus on remaining true to Sir Jim’s original vision. The Grenadier will provide best-in-class off-road capability, durability, and reliability to those who depend on a vehicle as a working tool, wherever they are in the world.
Engineering integrity
The Grenadier has undergone a rigorous, global testing programme over 1.1 million miles to ensure it meets INEOS Automotive’s ambition to be the ultimate 4X4. This is backed up with a class-leading five-year warranty. The Grenadier is built to last and engineered to keep going, year after year.
Renowned for their unforgiving and destructive hard-rock terrain, the Austrian mountains have been used for decades by Magna Steyr as the ultimate test of off-road capability and durability for special purpose vehicles. Including INEOS’s in-house team and those at its development partners – in particular, at Magna and AVL – there are around 350 engineers developing the Grenadier.
The Grenadier’s testing programme saw more than 130 second-phase prototypes deployed in extreme environments around the world. For example, off-road development locations included one of the most formidable 4X4 testing grounds in the world – the notorious trails of Schöckl mountain near INEOS Automotive’s engineering partner Magna Steyr’s HQ in Austria. Engineers successfully completed extensive cold weather engine calibration with Grenadier prototypes in northern Sweden, vehicle dynamic development in Hungary, and hot weather testing in Morocco and the Middle East.
Since 2020, INEOS Automotive has been working with The HALO Trust as a development partner for the Grenadier. The world’s largest humanitarian mine clearance and weapons disposal organisation operates more than 600 4X4 vehicles in some of the most remote and inhospitable places on the planet. Seeing how drivers deal with the terrain and repair vehicles in challenging conditions and with only basic tools has helped shape the ongoing development of the Grenadier. Prototypes are joining active HALO projects.
World-class build quality
INEOS Automotive’s Hambach plant is a state-of-the-art 210,000m² facility. It employs a highly experienced direct workforce of 1,000 and with an excellent track record for the quality of its output. Its location within the German automotive cluster gives it excellent access to supply chains, automotive talent and sales markets.
Since acquiring Hambach from Mercedes-Benz in January 2021, INEOS has invested over €50m in addition to the €470m invested in 2019. The Grenadier line includes a new semi-automated paintshop, a new fully-automated bodyshop, and a new quality centre.
In 2021, INEOS produced over 26,600 smart cars and almost 30,000 EQA front-end modules under contract to Mercedes-Benz.
INEOS is installing all-new IT and supply chain systems for production planning, logistics and parts quality monitoring, meaning the Grenadier operation is benefiting from the latest technology and is completely independent of the smart line.
Hundreds of Grenadier production prototypes are now being built at Hambach. These are being used for final test rounds including crash testing for certification and to validate the assembly process and build quality. The Hambach workforce is going through 20,000 hours of training as it prepares for the start of production.
Hambach is on-track to begin launch series production in July 2022.
