Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Rosie, 12, wins ‘Best Bake’ title at UKSE charity fund-raiser

When 12 year old Rosie McLean offered to help with a charity Cake Bake sale at Hartlepool’s Innovation Centre she didn’t expect to walk away with a title.

But it was her strawberry and white chocolate cake that the team at UK Steel Enterprise, who organised the event, chose as the Best Bake in the face of some strong competition.

The Cake Bake sales have become a regular event at the UKSE Centre on the Queens Meadow Business Park and the latest one, thanks to generous support from the 50+ business tenants based there, raised more than £360 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Rosie, a pupil at the Manor Community Academy, is the daughter of Stewart Mclean of Zeta Global, a company that provides market-leading technology and services to help leading global brands acquire and grow customer relationships. With offices around the world it recently chose the Innovation Centre as a base for some of its senior management team in the North East.

“I have always loved baking since I was little,” said Rosie. “I offered to make a cake that Dad could take for the sale and came up with the idea for strawberry and white chocolate as something that might be a little bit different.   I had never tried that recipe before so am very happy that it turned out so well and really pleased to win Best Bake.”

Sarah Thorpe of UKSE, the Tata Steel business-support subsidiary said “The Cake Bake is organised by Joan Cook and Paula Addison, who look after our Hartlepool Innovation Centre, and the tenants always turn up trumps by donating lots of cakes and savoury treats.   Raising more than £360 is amazing and Rosie’s cake thoroughly deserved the title of Best Bake”.

The businesses based at the Innovation Centre range from software and healthcare specialists to energy, construction and engineering companies.   In recent times they have helped the town’s Food Bank, Salvation Army and Alice House Hospice as well as Macmillan Cancer Support.
