An art sale by a well-known Northumberland artists has resulted in a £1,080 boost for Tynedale Hospice at Home.
Paul Whitehouse, who lives in Stocksfield, sold over 50 of his oil paintings as part of special sale of his work last month which took place 21 and 22 October at the Dr Syntax Pub in Stocksfield.
The sale included artwork a range of Northumbrian scenes and coastal images, painted over a 20 year period.
Paul said: “When I retired from a long career as a chartered engineer, I developed an interest restoring paintings. One day I saw a beautiful card with a lovely image on it and decided I would try and recreate it in oils for my wife’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. Up until about five years ago I’ve been painting prolifically and selling my art in galleries up and down the country.”
Sadly Paul has had to stop painting because of gradual failing eyesight and an imminent house move resulted in the opportunity to find new homes for some of his favourite pieces that have accumulated since he began his painting career.
“Selling the paintings for a good cause seemed an ideal solution and I can’t think of a more worthwhile charity than Tynedale Hospice at Home which does so much locally to help people who need hospice care. My wife and I know quite a few people who’ve benefitted from its services and we’re delighted to be able to give something back through this fundraiser.”
All funds raised will support the work of Tynedale Hospice at Home which provides palliative nursing care to people in their own homes, Family Support Services and a Hospital Transport Service to people living in Tynedale, West Northumberland, Ponteland and the surrounding areas.
Cathy Bates, community fundraiser for Tynedale Hospice at Home, said: “We can’t thank Paul enough for this amazing donation. This really will help transform lives. Demand for our services is growing all the time and a donation like this could pay for around 50 hours of palliative nursing care in the home to someone that needs it.”
