A new programme of events for the region’s Building Information Modelling (BIM) community kick started this week in Newcastle with over 50 construction professionals attending.
The North East is playing a dynamic and vibrant part in the digital construction revolution and BIM Regions North East who are delivering this new series of events, are hoping to add to this buzz of activity.
John Nielsen of CK21 Consultants, and who chairs the group, said: “The ambition of the BIM Regions group is to share information and lessons learnt with professionals from across the region’s construction industry to ensure that the BIM ethos is developed through the whole supply chain and process. This new series of events is intended to be very practical and provide those attending with new ideas and inspirations to take away and put into practice.”
Kicking off this first event was Matthew Holmes from JDDK, Stephen Hamil from NBS and five quick-fire presentations from some of the best examples of North East companies embracing BIM and the digital revolution including Faulkner Browns, Space Architects, BIM Academy, Gilberts and BIM Strategy.
Director of Research and Innovation at NBS, Stephen Hamil, said: “It was so encouraging to see so much support for this first event of what is shaping up to be a strong series for 2018.
“Support not only from the numbers attending but the number of those coming forward to share their own case studies and insights of better ways of working with BIM and driving businesses forward with a digital focus.
Collaboration is at the heart of BIM and is the key to success if we want to continue making the region a place of excellence in this field – something that can only benefit in attracting skills and investment.”
Contributors to the BIM Regions North East group include BIM Academy (Ryder Architecture and University of Northumbria), BIM Store (_Space Architects), NBS, 4Projects, Cundall, Aecom, University of Teesside, University of Newcastle, Constructing Excellence North East, Summers Inman, BIFM, and Surgo.
Events in 2018 will take place on the last Wednesday of every month and those interested are encouraged to bookmark www.theNBS.com/bimregionsnortheast for all updates.
