North East gallery has creative workshops all wrapped up

Newcastle-based art gallery, The Biscuit Factory, is crafting a new workshop programme this winter, which includes some festive treats.

The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest independent arts, craft and design gallery, has teamed up with a number of northern makers and artists to host a series of interactive workshops, including Jarrow-based duo Muddy Fingers Pottery; paper cut artist Emma Boyes, who lives in the Lake District; and screen printer and upcycling extraordinaire Kim Searle.

For the first time, the seasonal programme includes special festive themed activities, offering participants the chance to make their own Christmas cards, tree decorations, tags and wrapping paper.

The workshops, which take place throughout December 2017 and January 2018, are aimed at all abilities and priced from £35 per person.

The line-up includes:

  • Festive raku decorationwith Muddy Fingers on Saturday 2 December, 11am – 2pm, £35pp – make your own unique ceramic Christmas decorations and tea light holder
  • Linocut Christmas cards and wrapping paper with Kim Searle on Sunday 10 December, 2pm – 4pm, £35pp – using a variety of lino block, create bold graphic prints for Christmas cards, tags and wrapping paper
  • Ceramic coffee maker workshopwith Muddy Fingers on Sunday 7 January, 10am – 12.30pm, £35pp – decorate and assemble a filter coffee maker of your very own
  • Ceramic teapot making workshopwith Muddy Fingers on Sunday 7 January, 1.30pm – 4.30pm, £35pp – create a quaint two cup teapot with your own decorative design
  • Paper cuttingwith Emma Boyes on Sunday 14 January, 11am – 4pm, £60pp- discover the art of papercutting, made from a hand-drawn design
  • Macrame plant hanger with Kim Searle on Sunday 21 January, 11am – 1pm or 2pm – 4pm, £35pp – using twine, cords, beads and upcycled yarn, make a stylish hanging planter
  • Wire sculpturewith Zoe Robinson on Saturday 27 January, 10.30am – 1.30pm, £55pp – bring your sketches to life by creating a sculptural flying bird on a wooden base
