Ageing Better Middlesbrough and the Affordable Warmth Team at Middlesbrough Environment City are urging people aged 50 plus to be winter ready and get in touch for support to stay warm and healthy this winter.
The organisations have teamed up to make sure people are not missing out on advice and support about heating their homes and staying well as the weather gets colder.
Jennifer McIntosh, Affordable Warmth Advisor, said: “If you are worried about your gas bill this winter, if your boiler is not working properly, maybe you have a condition that is made worse by the cold weather – we can help get you feeling warm and cosy.
“For people who are aged 50 plus in Middlesbrough we offer a range of free services, including one to one advice sessions in community hubs as well as home visits.”
Geoff Kerr Morgan, aged 61 from Longlands, Middlesbrough, used the Affordable Warmth Team to help him when his boiler broke last year.
He said: “Following the death of my boiler, I contacted a reputable company. After charging me nearly £500 my boiler still was not working and there was no guarantee of further success. That is when I contacted Affordable Warmth for advice.
“They were lovely and referred me to a boiler replacement scheme who replaced my boiler for a fraction of what I would have paid.”
