Competition winners make a splash with holiday swimming courses

Screen Shot 2016-04-12 at 15.48.07Two lucky competition winners learned the importance of learning to swim after winning a free crash course of lessons during the Easter holidays.

Madeleine Morton, aged 6, from Durham City and Catherine Potter, aged 8 from Bowburn each won a week’s course of lessons. Madeleine had her lessons at Freeman’s Quay Leisure Centre in Durham while Catherine took hers at the newly refurbished pool at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, both managed by Durham County Council.

Catherine’s mum, Emma Potter, said: “I have four children, three of which take part in swimming lessons. Catherine was so excited to have won a free place. The crash courses at Newton Aycliffe are excellent and the teachers are great.

“The children really get the one-to-one attention they need to bring them on and help them move to the next swimming stage.”

Crash courses are the perfect way for children to enjoy their time off and are ideal for introducing non-swimmers to the water. They are available at a leisure centre near you during the school holidays for only £23 for five swimming lessons (one lesson per day).

To book a crash course of lessons for your children or to find out more about all the other lessons and activities available contact your local leisure centre or visit http://www.durham.gov.uk/swimming
