A Tees Valley precision machining company has welcomed Mayor Ben Houchen, following successful funding support.

Dormor Machine and Engineering, in Middlesbrough, was established in 1979 and specialises in large scale precision engineering projects.

It machines parts including valves, castings, pump casings and impellers for a range of sectors such as marine, oil and gas, mining, power generation and wind and wave.

The firm has received two apprenticeship grants from the Combined Authority’s Apprenticeship Grants for Employers scheme, totalling £5,000.

During the visit and tour of Dormor’s operations, the Mayor met Managing Director Helen Cameron-Clarke, who shared with him how the company is building on its previous success, including being named one of the 50 fastest growing companies in the North East by law firm Ward Hadaway, and its aims for the future.

Mayor Houchen said: “Dormor is a great example of what we do so well in the Tees Valley. The company has stood the test of time and continued to grow, and their commitment to apprenticeships means they’re playing an important part in ensuring our young people have the skills needed to succeed.

“We have a history of working with Dormor and assisting it as it expands. I look forward to strengthening these relationships with the firm, to do whatever I can to support its long-term aspirations.”

Helen Cameron-Clarke said: “This year, we’re celebrating our 40th anniversary and we’ve lasted this long because we have invested in long-term growth – both in our machinery and the people of Tees Valley.

“We hope to be here for decades to come and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to speak to the Mayor to discuss how we intend to make sure of that, while asking him how he could help.”
