A North East adventurer, Kane Avellano, is about to reach home after riding around the world on his motorbike, Bonnie. Arriving just before his 24th birthday, he will beat the world record as the youngest person to circumnavigate the world by motorcycle (solo and unsupported).
The 23 year old has travelled over 32,000 miles in just under eight months and covered 35 different countries and six continents. He said: “The past eight months have been the most exciting in my life. I had the chance to discover what the world really has to offer, to meet many different people along the way and explore their cultures, religions and behaviours, while having an incredible time.”
The youngest person to complete the challenge alone, Kane has faced many dangerous situations, including the torrential Monsoons in India, blistering desert rides in Australia, powerful storms in South America and freezing weather in Europe, but he says “Every moment has been worth it. I faced each challenge with excitement, not knowing how I would overcome it or who would help me!’
With a large following on social media, Kane has also raised awareness about traveling in countries that are rarely visited by European tourists, including Iran, Pakistan and Myanmar and has inspired many others to start their own adventures.
While travelling, the biker has been raising money for the charity Unicef, which is the world’s leading organisation for children who work in 190 countries, ensuring more of the world’s children are fed, vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation.
Kane, who was brought up in South Shields, said, “I have 2 younger brothers, and when I see the appalling situations that millions of children are facing including violence, disease, hunger, and the chaos of war and disaster in today’s world, I imagine how this could be my brothers in the same situations and that I would do anything and everything to prevent this from happnening. This is a real opportunity for me to make a difference to these children and ensure that they are able to reach their full potential.”

Kane will be arriving back into his home town of South Shields on Thursday 19th January and will be greeted by friends, family and the Mayor of South Tyneside at the South Shields Town Hall at 12.30pm.
