Screen Shot 2016-05-17 at 11.11.19TECHNOLOGY giant Google is set to take over Sunderland city centre, as it prepares to host two interactive events to share digital know-how with the city’s businesses.

Cloud Technology Solutions and Google Digital Garage are coming to Sunderland on May 25 and 26, as part of a ‘Digital Transformation Roadshow’, which aims to build upon the city’s digital knowledge and share best-practice.

The free event, open to businesses of all size and sectors, has been brought to the city by MAKE it Sunderland and the Sunderland Business Partnership, and will offer companies in the city the chance to experience using Google apps, test the latest cloud-enabled technology and learn how a journey to the cloud can reduce costs and revolutionise the way they work.  Participants also get the chance to receive free, in-person digital skills training from Google mentors who can share the latest insight and explain how business can grow through digital marketing.

Gary Hutchinson, chair of the Sunderland Business Partnership, an influential organisation that brings together businesses from across the city and beyond said that the event would provide a great opportunity for the city’s companies to learn from a global technology leader.

He said: “Google is a household name, and has built its business on being ahead of the curve when it comes to technology.  It is fantastic to be able to welcome the company to the city to share with businesses how embracing new technology can benefit them.

“The event is a really unique opportunity to meet with Google, in Sunderland, and learn about the benefits that being forward thinking can bring.  I’d urge the city’s businesses to go along and learn more.”

Google will also use the event to share details of its new online learning platform g.co/DigitalGarage which provides individuals with a tailored training plan to learn digital skills, for free.

The event, supported by Sunderland Software City, will see a Google Bus arrive at Washington Business Centre, on May25 from 10am until 4pm and a more extensive programme of activity, including a Google Garage session as well the Bus, taking place at Sunderland Software Centre on May 26 between 10am and 12pm, with the Google Bus sticking around until 4pm.

Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “Sunderland is a recognised hub for software and technology, but software is not something that only technology businesses benefit from, and in fact, the benefits that it can bring to companies in sectors from retail to professional services, can be huge.

“Events like this are not to be missed and provide a great opportunity for the business community to access expert knowledge that will help to further the growth and development of their company.”
