Ideas on how to protect the assets of farms and rural businesses in challenging times will be on the agenda at a special event later this month.

The specialist rural and agricultural team at North East law firm Hay & Kilner is hosting a free seminar on Wednesday 24 May which will cover a range of different topics relating to live issues faced by the regional farming community.

Managing farm diversification plans in relation to renewable energy projects, mineral rights and telecommunications infrastructure will be in the spotlight, along with advice on how to manage disputes relating to the Basic Payment Scheme.

Specialists from Hay & Kilner’s family law team will also be speaking on the particular issues around asset protection and divorce law in relation to family-owned rural and farm businesses.

Hay & Kilner is one of North East England’s leading independent law firms and provides comprehensive legal advice across every aspect of the law to businesses and individuals from both within and outside the region.

The firm’s private client team, which works with a wide range of rural and agricultural clients both within and outside the North East, was ranked as a ‘Tier One’ firm in most recent edition of legal sector ‘bible’ The Legal 500 and was named as Private Client Team Of The Year at the 2022 Northern Law Awards.

Joanne Milne, partner in the private client team at Hay & Kilner, who will lead the Protecting The Farm event, says: “Change is constant in the rural economy, but with so many wider factors impacting on it and the huge shift that is coming in with the UK’s post-Brexit Agricultural Transition Plan, there’s rarely been as much for agricultural business owners to contend with all at once.

“Our event is designed to provide insights into how issues arising from common situations can be mitigated and resolved, and how to manage opportunities for diversification and development, which can make a significant difference to a rural business’s finances.

“Our rural business events are always well attended by business owners and their advisers from right across the region, and with so many live issues under the spotlight, we hope to see as many people as possible coming along to listen to our experts’ views, advice and guidance.”
