Youngsters can beat the boredom this half term by getting active and having fun with a host of sporting activities lined up by South Tyneside Council’s Sport and Leisure Team.
From Tuesday 31 May until Friday 3 June there will be a range of free sports activities running at West Park, in Jarrow, and Harton Sports Centre, in South Shields, between 11am and 3pm.
All of the activities at West Park are aimed at children between the ages of five and 14 and activities at Harton Sports Centre are suited for children aged eight and 14. Sports include unihoc, kwik cricket, kick rounders, tennis, football, team games and many more. Those attending are free to come and go as they please.

Both centres will also host a Football Camp, from 10am to 3pm aimed at youngsters aged five to 12 throughout the half term break. There are three football camp courses:-

Each course costs £28 per child for the four days which includes a medal and certificate.
Youngsters can also take on the new 20 metre long Olympic Inflatable Challenge at South Marine Park, in South Shields, on Tuesday 31 May to Friday 3 June, from 11am to 3pm. The inflatable course is aimed at youngsters aged five to 14 who will be able to run and climb through the obstacles and bounce over hurdles. There is no need to book and the cost is £1 for three turns.
Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “There is so much going on for children over the May half term. As we are building up to the Olympics in Rio this is a great opportunity for youngsters to get involved with sports and athletics and try out our new Olympic Inflatable Challenge.
“I would encourage youngsters to take full advantage of the variety of activities on offer and make the school break fun and active.”
