The Newcastle Eagles head coach, who grew up in New York’s Bronx, was heading back stateside on a scouting mission to look at potential signings ahead of next season’s BBL Championship.

With United’s impressive route network allowing over 300 onward connections across the Americas from its Newark hub, Fab is looking to take advantage and add to the Eagles roster.

Speaking ahead of his flight from Newcastle, Flournoy, said: “”Theses flights are a major asset in connecting the North East with America.

“The United service will allow me to travel right across the US to take advantage of scouting and recruiting. It also means we could potentially trial players in Newcastle, with an international-service to and from America that is equivalent to a drive down south. This service is a game changer and one we will look to fully utilise to maximise our success for the upcoming season and the future.”

United recommenced its nonstop service on May 26th and thousands of holidaymakers and business travellers have already booked on the service, which is now running six days a week until September 6th.

Leon McQuaid, Aviation Development Manager at Newcastle International Airport, said: “The team here at Newcastle worked extremely hard to secure this route for the region.

“We are delighted to learn that United’s direct service to New York is helping a range of businesses across the region and passengers, including Fab, are making the most of United’s excellent route network to connect onto numerous further afield destinations.
