A footgolf course has opened at Whitley Bay Mini Golf on The Links.
North Tyneside Council created the nine-hole course, which includes 10 bunkers, after the game’s popularity grew across the country.
The aim of the game, which combines football and golf, is to get the ball into the hole using only your feet in the fewest number of shots as possible.
Played with a regular size football, the game can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, and it’s currently the UK’s fastest growing sport.
Cllr Eddie Darke, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, is set to try out the course with a group of eager footgolfers keen to try out the new sport, later this week.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Cllr Darke said: “We are working extremely hard to regenerate Whitley Bay and to make sure it’s a place visitors want to come to – and family activities like this are a great way of doing so.
“Our miniature golf course is already extremely popular and we hope by creating this new attraction on the same site even more people will come and visit.
“I’d encourage the public to give it a go and enjoy the spectacular views of the coastline while they play.”
The course is open from 10am to 7.30pm, seven days a week.
