A Stockton photographer is launching his very own exhibition at ARC called SIRF’s Up, to share his favourite memories of previous SIRF events ahead of this year’s festival.
Adam Parkin, 24, has compiled a selection of snapshots of his favourite Stockton International Riverside Festival memories from over the years, which span as far back as 2005. He now hopes that his own photographs will bring back some nostalgic memories for others.
Adam works as an amateur freelance photographer specialising in event and music photography, having graduated from Cleveland Collage of Art and Design in 2012 with a BA (Hons) in Photography.
By launching his first photographic exhibition at ARC, Adam hopes that people will enjoy reminiscing about past SIRF events as much as he enjoyed taking photos of them.
Adam said: “SIRF is an important part of Stockton’s calendar and brings a lot of entertainment to the town. As I’ve been attending the festival since being a child, I find it hard to pick my favourite SIRF memory, but I really enjoy the large scale walk about shows such as ‘Les Giraffes’ and ‘Les Tambours De La Meurte’ – they just make you become completely immersed in the performance. I wanted to produce the exhibition so that people can come and remember some of the biggest and best bits of entertainment from past years, before discovering some new gems at this year’s festival, which of course, I can’t wait to capture on camera.”
“I am excited to showcase my images of SIRF not only to the people of Stockton, but to the performers and visitors from further afield and really hope to give others the opportunity to reminisce about their own personal highlights.”
The exhibition features images of large and small scale performances including stilt walkers, drummers and acrobats, and you can also expect to see some famous Stockton landmarks too.
On Monday 8 August, the day after this year’s SIRF Festival, Adam is holding a charity night at the Storytellers in Stockton to raise money for the Finlay Cooper Fund and everyone is welcome, the event starts at 6.30pm and tickets are £3.50 adv. and £5 on the door.
SIRF’s Up: 10 Years, 4 Cameras, 1 Festival – an Exhibition by Adam Parkin will be on display at ARC from Monday 18 July until Saturday 13 August and is free to all.
