Contractors are making quick progress on clearing a site in Teams, Gateshead, to make way for a £1m development of new affordable homes.
Housing association Isos Housing is behind the new scheme, which will be built by NB Clark Construction.
The development of 10 new affordable homes on Victoria Road in Teams, Gateshead will contain 7 bungalows, each with two bedrooms, and 3 houses – again with two bedrooms.
The new homes are being built in partnership with Gateshead Council, in response to continuing strong demand for affordable homes in the borough.
Isos already owns and manages over 700 homes in the borough of Gateshead.
Lea Smith, development and regeneration manager for Isos Housing, said: “We know there is a real need for high quality, affordable homes in Gateshead. This is a development which will meet the needs of local people – with both family homes and bungalows for older residents.
“Isos is committed to building 200 new homes regionwide in this financial year, to help tackle the housing crisis in the North East.”
The new homes on Victoria Road have been designed by HMH Architects and consultants Portland Consulting and Lumsdon Wood on the scheme have also contributed to the scheme’s preparation.
Coun Liz Twist, Cabinet Member for Housing at Gateshead Council, said: “We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Isos Housing to provide some much needed affordable housing in the area. These are well designed, quality homes and I’m sure they will be very popular with local people.”
