Students celebrate success as school doubles in size

Marchbank graduatesA SCHOOL, which has doubled in size in three years, celebrated student success at a special ceremony to remember.

Staff, pupils, governors and parents took to the great outdoors making use of the beautiful grounds at Marchbank Free School, Darlington, for its annuals awards.

The third annual awards and graduation ceremony saw pupils rewarded for their efforts after been given a special opportunity to learn at a school specialising in emotional and behavioural conditions.

Accolades were presented by principal Mandy Southwick for attendance, consistant behaviour, improvement and going above and beyond, with the top prize of Shine Awards going to the best performing pupil in each year group.

Mrs Southwick told parents that pupils had been a pleasure to teach as they had all worked tremendously hard. They had shown a thirst for learning, caring natures, impeccable manners and great pride in their work.

“Children need to be offered the opportunity to shine and everyone of our pupils certainly took that opportunity,” she said.

Year 6s celebrated their graduation in mortar boards and gowns before being treated to special cakes and non-alcoholic bubbly as they prepare to start the next chapter of their lives at secondary school.

Guests were treated to musical renditions by the school choir before enjoying strawberries and cream on the lawns at the Mowden Hall site.
