Thursday, 15 December 2022, Cambridge, UK – In a series of updates, RuneScape creators Jagex have revealed a sneak peek at what players can expect for the iconic MMO in 2023. Kicking things off with a new main storyline based around building a fortress on the edge of the Wilderness, the developers have also announced the highly anticipated new skill, Necromancy, and more.

The first new skill since 2020’s Archaeology, Necromancy is arriving to RuneScape next year. More information on this exciting new skill will be available in the coming months.

In Fort Forinthry, players will defend a fortress that stands between the chaos of The Wilderness from the order of the civilised world.  As Zamorakian forces threaten, players will use a new Construction Training Method to build Fort Forinthry over the course of the new storyline featuring new quest, combat, and skilling challenges. The new storyline kicks off mid-February and will feature a huge cast of popular NPCs including King Roald, Queen Ellamaria, and more.

Arriving on January 9th, the new and improved Death Cost system reduces the amount player’s pay by 80% or more and simplifies reclaiming their items so players can get back to Gielinor faster.  To celebrate the new death cost improvements, a new combat event, The Raptor’s Rampage at War’s Retreat, will let players put their players-vs-monster skills to the test.

More information about all the updates coming in 2023 will be revealed in the coming months.

RuneScape is available now on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android, complete with cross-platform progression and play on PC and mobile.
