THREE TEESSIDE care homes came together to raise funds as part of a nationwide coffee morning event for one of the UK’s largest cancer charities.
Dozens of residents and staff members from Mandale House Care Home, in Thornaby, Ingleby Care Home, in Ingleby Barwick, and Hazelgrove Court Care Home, in Saltburn, gathered for this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning.
The annual nationwide fundraising campaign sees small home gatherings to school fundraisers to corporate events taking place in support of the almost 3.5 million cancer patients across the UK.
The Hill Care Group homes’ event included games such as a tombola, raffle, guess the name of the teddy, and guess the weight of the cake to raise funds for the charity.
Sue Dixon, Catherine Sunderland and Jean Simpson, from St Francis of Assisi Church Friendship Group, also joined, bringing homemade bakes to sell as part of the fundraising effort.
Wearing their green Macmillan sashes and t-shirts, attendees enjoyed a hot drink, cake and conversation throughout the afternoon, raising £155 for the charity.
Margaret Johnson, 92, a resident at Ingleby Care Home, said: “I was so happy to win guess the name of the teddy. I had a teddy just like it once.”
Maureen Sellenthin, 85, a resident at Mandale House Care Home, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the games and helping out, as it is for such a great cause.”
Barry Taylor, 86, a resident at Hazelgrove Court Care Home, added: “It was great going along to Ingleby to help out for this great cause. I was delighted we raised £155.”
The event was held at Ingleby Care Home, on Lamb Lane, and organised by the home’s activities coordinator, Lindsey Levick, alongside the activities coordinators for Hazelgrove Court and Mandale House, Sharon Lewis and Leanne Johnson, respectively.
Lindsey said: “It is great to get together with other care homes within the Hill Care Group to socialise and raise money for a great cause.
“Thank you to all those who helped organise and those who attended and helped raise such a fantastic amount for a charity close to all our hearts.”
