Durham Markets and the Salvation Army ask Shoppers to Give an Extra Gift

The Salvation Army, with the support of Durham Markets, is asking people to think about those in need this Christmas and buy an extra present to donate to their appeal.

The Salvation Army has launched its annual toy and gift appeal and is asking people to buy an extra gift and leave it in a donation ‘bin’ which is situated in the Management Office in Durham Market Hall (adjacent to Café Cenno on the Mezzanine Level).  The appeal has two aims; to provide a present for Christmas morning for children who might otherwise not receive any presents, and also to supply practical gifts to vulnerable adults in the Durham City area.

Shoppers are being asked to donate the following types of gifts; for children, small gifts such as toys, soft toys, colouring books and crayons; and for vulnerable adults, practical gifts such as scarves, gloves, hats, socks etc.  Gifts can be donated during Market Hall opening hours up to 2pm on Tuesday 20th December (the Market Hall is open daily, including Sunday).  All children’s gifts will be handed out to those in need through the Salvation Army’s volunteers at the Langley Moor distribution point and the adults via volunteers at Sanctuary 21 at 48-49 Saddler Street, Durham.
