AUTHOR AND TV PERSONALITY GERVASE PHINN COMES TO BARNARD CASTLE 

Gervase Phinn, one of Britain’s best love comic writers and raconteurs, is to bring his hilarious and poignant stories to life for audiences in Barnard Castle next month.

On Saturday 4 Mar 2017 at The Witham, Phinn will share his acclaimed tales of life as a school inspector in the Yorkshire Dales through side-splitting retellings, anecdotes and poems.

Dubbed “the James Herriot of schools”, Gervase Phinn has been touring theatres across the country for over 12 years. A number one best-selling writer, radio and television personality, Phinn is at his very best in front of a live audience.

An Evening with Gervase Phinn will showcase Phinn’s keen ear for the absurd and sharp eye for the ludicrous that have delighted audiences and earned him rave reviews all across the country.

After a 14 year teaching career, Phinn became an education adviser and school inspector. He is now, among many other things, a freelance lecturer, a consultant for the Open University, and a Visiting Professor of Education at The University of Teesside. In 2005 the highest academic award of Sheffield Hallam University, Doctor of the University (D.Univ.) was conferred upon him by the Chancellor, Professor Lord Robert Winston. In 2006 he became President of The School Library Association.

Phinn has published a huge number of articles, poetry collections and books, ranging from academic texts and plays to autobiographies and children’s books. He is a regular face on television, having appeared on the likes of The Alan Titchmarsh Show, Esther, Open House with Gloria Hunniford, BBC Breakfast Television, The Heaven and Earth Show, and The Politics Show.
