A CAMPAIGN that aims to put local food and drink on the menu of every restaurant in Middlesbrough is offering diners a chance to win a delicious meal for two.
People who visit restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops that are a part of Middlesbrough’s popular Local Food Weekend between September 1 and September 3 can enter a free prize draw for their next meal on the house
Jodie Foster from Middlesbrough won a meal for two after the last local food weekend in June and took the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful tastes of Linthorpe Road’s Oven Restaurant in July.
Jodie said: “I was delighted to win the prize from Growing Middlesbrough and decided to use the voucher at The Oven and was so glad we did as the food was absolutely amazing.
“It’s fantastic to know that so many of Middlesbrough’s restaurants and bars are serving great local food and drink so I would definitely recommend that people check out the next Local Food Weekend in September.”
The free prize draw is another great offer by Growing Middlesbrough, a campaign to improve access to local food, which also helps to create jobs and support the local economy by increasing the use of food and drink which has been grown or produced within 50 miles of the town.
A growing number of restaurants, bars, cafes and coffee shops are taking part by offering at least one dish made using a minimum of two locally-produced ingredients.
Diners can show their support by eating at one of the participating venues, which include:

- The Curing House
- The Garden at Teesside University
- The Olde Young Tea House
- Oven
- Al Forno
- Fellini’s
- The Smeltery at mima
- Jury’s Inn
- Off The Ground Coffee.
Joe Dunne, from Middlesbrough Environment City, is one of those at the forefront of the Growing Middlesbrough Local Food Network.
He said: “The interest in Growing Middlesbrough is increasing all the time – we’re talking to a growing number of producers, retailers, caterers and consumers who know that their involvement is helping to support the local economy by securing jobs and creating new ones.
“Buying locally produced food and drink also helps the environment as it’s travelled a shorter distance, which often also means it’s fresher.”
