Students at Dyke House which is one of ten secondary academies sponsored by the Northern Education Trust (NET), have secured some of the best results ever at GCSE this year.
The academy achieved an incredible number of good passes in English and Maths as the new marking system for awarding grades in these two subjects was used for the first time. A staggering 70% of students overall achieved a standard pass in English and Maths, which represents an improvement of 27% on last year’s equivalent passes at grades A*-C.
There were once again some outstanding individual successes. Rachel Skinner achieved 3A, 8A* of which two of the grades were awarded the very top grade of 9 in the newly reformed GCSEs. Sukaina Ahmed achieved 5A, 6A* again achieving the very top grade of 9 in English. Other highlights include Patrick Collins who achieved 2B, 3A, 6A* with two grade 9s in the newly reformed GCSE’s. Caitlyn Gray achieved 1B, 6A, 3A* receiving the very top grade of 9 in mathematics.
Commenting on this year’s results, Andrew Jordon, executive principal, wished to thank his teaching staff and students for the dedication and commitment they have shown. He said:
“The continuing success of Dyke House is very pleasing. This is a fantastic set of results for us. Our aim is to ensure that every child fulfils their potential and is fully equipped to proceed confidently to the next stage in their life – whether this is into further study or into training. With results like this, I am certain we are well on our way to achieving this aim.”
Ian Kershaw, chief executive of Northern Education Trust, added his praise: “It is good to see that the GCSE examination results have significantly improved at Dyke House and as a result, many more students will be joining the sixth form to prepare for university entrance.”
