PINT sized pirates will be able to celebrate summer with an action-packed day of tales and activities in South Tyneside.
As part of the Treasures of South Tyneside 2015 programme of events, 21 July is being designated Tremendous Tuesday at South Shields Museum as little landlubbers prove their pirating worth.
During the event, which is also part of the wider Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums Marine Festival, youngsters will be entertained with pirate tales and antics and encouraged to learn how to walk and talk like the villainous highwaymen of the seas.
Aaargh it be Pirates!, is the first in a trio of special days designed to help children get their school holidays off to a lively start and the fun continues the following Tuesday with some Animal Antics.
On 28 July, the museum will be adding to its popular Creature Corner with a variety of live animals, including rabbits, mice, spiders and snakes, which children can handle – if they feel brave enough.
Then, on Funday Friday, 31 July, the action goes under the sea with the chance to explore marine wildlife.
Experts from Newcastle University will be giving visitors the chance to not only find out more about starfish, lobsters, crabs, but even to handle some of the creatures.
The Treasures of South Tyneside 2015 family events are part of a summer long line-up, which runs right through August and has been organised by South Tyneside Council, Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and Bede’s World, Jarrow.
All three events will take place between 11am and 3pm. Aaargh it be Pirates! and Funday Friday are free to attend and the Creature Corner event costs £1 per child per 25 minute session.
